UBC Land and Food Systems students work at Vernon demonstration farm

by Arnica Rowan

This weekend students from the Land and Food Systems program at UBC-Vancouver are coming to the Vernon Okanagan College campus.  The group is researching how we can increase student and community involvement with the demonstration farm on the Vernon campus.

The student group has the following objectives: garden planning, and farm promotion including a website for the garden. They are also developing a survey for our community meetings.

This is the third year in a row that students from the UBC program have been working on the Okanagan College campus. Thanks to a partnership between Okanagan College Interdisciplinary Studies professor Ann Marie McKinnon and Art Bomke, the UBC chair of Agricultural Science, the two institutions are working together on essential food system issues.

Okanagan College is a member of the BC Farm to Campus network. The network meets via telephone about once a month to discuss food issues on campuses.
